Seqster and George G. Glenner Alzheimer’s Family Centers Bring Integrated Health Data Platform to Alzheimer’s Community, Enabling Greater Access and Oversight of Critical Health Data

SAN DIEGO, March 13, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — Seqster (pronounced “seek-ster”) today announced a partnership with George G. Glenner Alzheimer’s Family Centers, Inc. providing access to the company’s innovative healthcare data platform to improve Glenner Centers’ participant and family member care coordination and decision-making.

“In building a first-of-its-kind health data platform, our aim was to empower individuals to take full ownership of all of their health data, understand it better, and share it with others on their own terms,” said Ardy Arianpour, CEO and co-founder, Seqster. “Having personally experienced the impact of Alzheimer’s on families, I see an immediate need for better ways to support day-to-day decisions as well as a longer term need to preserve and pass on valuable data to future generations for breakthrough discoveries. We are excited to work with Glenner Centers to make rich, actionable data a seamless part of how their participants and families get care.”

Seqster’s unique platform lets individuals aggregate and control all of their available health information, including electronic medical record (EMR), wearable, ancestry, and genomics data, within moments of signing up and with full transparency for data usage. With Seqster, individuals and their families can better navigate healthcare treatment and share highly valuable personal and family health data with providers, innovators and researchers, on their own terms. Seqster’s platform currently connects to more than 1,000 healthcare providers comprised of more than 2,000 hospitals and clinics nationwide, with additional providers coming online daily.

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, more than five million people are currently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in the United States of America.1 In San Diego alone, 65,000 people live with Alzheimer’s disease and more than 200,000 San Diegans are caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s.2 The disease is currently the third leading cause of death in San Diego.

The mission of Glenner Centers is to provide high-quality adult day care and support services to families affected by Alzheimer’s, through innovative day care programs, family support, case management, crisis intervention, and family and community education, advocacy, and information.

Through Seqster, Glenner Centers offer its participants and families an additional benefit and service that improves how they navigate their care experience, including instant access to medical record data alongside fitness, wellness, genomics, and ancestry data. This information can be easily shared with family members, giving caregivers an easier way to manage care coordination and inform treatment decisions. Essentially, Seqster helps families answer the question “what do I do now?” following an initial diagnosis of a loved one as well as effectively navigate changes in a participant’s health status and contribute to breakthrough research and discovery efforts.

In addition to immediate access to an integrated view of all available health data, Glenner Centers’ participants and families benefit from Seqster’s unique HealthTrust™ program. HealthTrust lets individuals establish a legal asset from their health data and entrust a family member or members with access to their health record, much like a person executes a will. This allows individuals to pass their health data onto family for insights and information for generations to come.

“We are proud to work with Seqster to securely and efficiently deliver critical health data into the hands of our participants and their families,” stated Scott J. Tarde, L.N.H.A. Chief Executive Officer/Executive Director, George G. Glenner Alzheimer’s Family Centers, Inc.®. “The opportunity to be the first organization to offer Seqster’s solution to our customers is consistent with our mission to bring them the best and most innovative care.”

The Seqster-Glenner Centers partnership comes at a time when Seqster makes its recent corporate debut. The company is focused on building powerful partnerships with the healthcare organizations and patient populations who need it most, with plans to make a direct-to-consumer offering available later this year.

About George G. Glenner Alzheimer’s Family Centers, Inc.®

Our legacy begins with our founders: George G. Glenner, M.D. and his wife, Joy Glenner. Dr. Glenner was at the National Institutes of Health for 26 years before being recruited to UCSD School of Medicine in 1980 where he was a Distinguished Research Pathologist. Dr. Glenner’s seminal scientific isolation and identification of the βeta amyloid protein in 1984 opened the door to Alzheimer’s disease research. George’s compassion for the families caring for loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease was as tangible as his scientific genius. The two qualities coalesced late one night in May 1982 as George and Joy, who volunteered in his research laboratory, answered a desperate phone call. An overwrought family caregiver was preparing to take the life of his wife who was severely afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease and himself. The next day, the creation of the first non-profit, dementia-specific, adult social/medical model day program was created. Joy became the in-kind Executive Director until she retired in 2007.

Dr. Glenner passed away in 1995. Mrs. Joy Glenner lives in San Diego County and is actively involved with the organization that honors her late husband’s legacy and other philanthropic organizations.

The Glenner legacy of touching lives through Sharing the Caring was created out of love and understanding of the urgent and unmet need for support for family caregivers. Their legacy is continuing while scientists pursue The Answer to this dehumanizing disease that robs the mind of its victims while it breaks the heart of their families.
